If You Must Kill Time, Kill It With Intention

How Taking a Break Can Boost Your Productivity and Creativity

In a society that glorifies hustle culture and being busy all the time, it’s easy to forget the value of taking a break. High achievers and ambitious people often feel like they need to be productive every minute, but this can lead to burnout and busywork that doesn’t contribute to meaningful progress.

Mindful Waste Vs. Mindless Waste

It’s important to have time and space to think, examine our lives and look at the bigger picture. Warren Buffett, for example, spends half of his time sitting and reading, which allows him to be a lifelong learner and make better decisions. Taking a break also allows us to focus on bigger fundamentals in our lives and careers, whether that’s discovering a new passion or coming up with a new business idea.

Not all time off is created equal. Spending too much time on social media or other mindless activities can be counterproductive. Instead, try to ‘waste’ your time wisely by focusing on things that will help you in the long run. This could mean spending time making something or discovering new insights and inspiration.

Take Time Off

Killing time with intention is about being deliberate with your time off. It’s okay to take a break and do nothing, as long as it’s a deliberate choice and not a mindless habit. By being intentional with your time off, you can boost your productivity and creativity. So the next time you’re feeling low on energy or stuck on something, try taking a break and see where it leads you.
