Stop living on autopilot mode
From the beginning, we learn to live life on autopilot. Our decisions are made for us. Most of us choose a profession and commit ourselves to it for the next 50 years, without even realising if it's something we actually want to do. We end up in the loop of doing a 9–5 job that we’re only somewhat interested in.
Many of us would love to quit our jobs today. But our situations wouldn’t let us. We have families, responsibilities, and bills to look after. So we do just enough to get through; we do mediocre work for our entire lives without ever realising our fullest capabilities. Without ever being able to see our greatest work.
5 Years of Following Your Obsession
A career provides the perfect distraction. You can go on for years doing the same thing over and over again without ever sitting down and asking yourself where you’ll be in the next 5–10 years.
But obsession is different. Once you know you’re obsessed with something, the only thing you need to do is to immerse yourself in it. But the minimum commitment for your passion to show its rewards is 5 years.
The best part is, obsession takes everything through its natural course. Learning, optimising, strategising, everything comes naturally to you once you are obsessed.
Invest in yourself and follow your obsession for the next 5 years instead of working on autopilot in a lukewarm career for the next 50 years and then dying full of untapped potential.
